‘Technology is transforming our industry, creating new opportunities to deliver smarter, more seamless experiences for customers,’ says new appointee
Zurich UK has appointed Asha Kumar as its first chief technology officer, with the former HSBC leader set to join the insurer’s executive committee in October 2025.
The newly created role will support Zurich UK’s ambition to accelerate its adoption of artificial intelligence and modernise technology across the business.
Kumar most recently served as managing director of the chief information office for UK retail, wealth and private banking at HSBC, leading the bank’s digital transformation.
She has also held senior roles at RBS, BT, Barclays and British Gas.
Drazen Jaksic, chief executive at Zurich UK, said the appointment marked “a significant milestone” for the firm.
He explained: “We are really pleased to welcome Kumar to Zurich UK as our first chief technology officer. This is a clear sign of our commitment to continue to build world-class technology and AI.
“She brings a wealth of experience in leading digital transformation and delivering customer-centric technology propositions. Her passion for harnessing technology to make a real difference aligns perfectly with our ambition to set new standards in the insurance industry and accelerate our digital journey.”
‘Really exciting opportunity’
Speaking on the appointment, Kumar said Zurich’s focus on innovation and customer-centricity had attracted her to the role.
