Amicus members at Aviva are to stage a musical protest over the transfer of 2,350 jobs to India, revealed a report

The union will stage a carol service outside Aviva's London office, with the words of the carols amended to highlight the loss of jobs.

Amicus said its research had shown that consumers considered whether a firm had outsourced jobs to countries such as India before they purchased insurance or other products.

Amicus national officer David Flemming said: "People choose their Christmas presents very carefully, and our research has shown they also put as much thought into choosing policies, and that companies without thought to the future will be penalised by UK shoppers.

"We want companies to be open and transparent about their business decisions."

According to the report, Amicus said its research had shown that 200,000 UK jobs would be lost by 2008 as part of an "exodus" of two million jobs from Western economies to India.
