Ricksons Solicitors has said the decision that insurers will not have to issue compensation payments to people with pleural plaques is likely to be appealed.

The Court of Appeal ruling is expected to save the insurance industry approximately £25m a year.

Peter Kenworthy, insurance litigation partner at Northern firm Ricksons Solicitors said however, that it was very unlikely that the claimants' solicitors will accept the decision.

Kenworthy said: "There will almost certainly be an appeal to the House of Lords and there may be potential widespread costs consequences if the decision is overturned."
