Aviva has confirmed that Pehr Gyllenhammar will retire as chairman and director with effect from 31 December 2005.

Gyllenhammar will be succeeded as chairman by Lord Sharman of Redlynch, OBE, who joined the board in January 2005.

Aviva also confirms that George Paul and Elizabeth Vallance, independent non-executive directors, will retire from the Aviva board with effect from 31 December 2005.

Both Paul and Vallance are retiring in line with the board's rotation and succession plans for its non-executive
directors.

Aviva said that as part of this succession planning Mary Francis joined the board with effect from 1 October 2005.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
