Isn't risk management a funny old game? Backchat couldn't help but raise a smile when the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers (Airmic) had to cancel its seventh annual lecture on Monday night, because nobody could make it in to London due to the collapse of the rail network as a result of the storms.

It would have been funny enough that a bunch of risk managers should have no disaster recovery plan in place but was made even funnier when Backchat remembered that the current Airmic president, Alan Fleming, happens to be risk manager for Railtrack, the company that instigated most of the cancellations.
