Lloyds and RBS had the most complaints about insurance

Financial Ombudsman Service figures show banks faced the most complaints about insurance, with Lloyds topping the league table with 8,474 complaints.

But this figure is artificially lowered by splitting some of its divisions and insurance providers. Lloyds owned Blackhorse was in third place with 1,876. Bank of Scotland, part of the Lloyds group was in fifth place with 1,548 complaints.

Within the worst 20 companies for complaints is the independent firm that provides Lloyds’ payment protection insurance, Eisis, which has a further 582 complaints. And Lloyds owned St Andrews slipped in at 19th place with 425 complaints. That gives Lloyds a total of 12,905.

It gets worse: Lloyds TSB General Insurance had a further 364 and Halifax Insurance Ireland a further 89. That takes the total to 13,358.

RBS

RBS, Nat West, Direct Line and UK Insurance, all part of the same group , are in the top 20, with a total of 3,390 complaints. Churchill had a further 329, NIG had 123, Ulster Bank had 46, bringing the total to 3,888.
