The Claims Standards Federation (CSF) has named Dr Tony Burns-Howell as its new chief executive, with immediate effect.

Burns-Howell will head up the executive board consisting of independent individuals from outside the claims industry.

His role will be to represent the federation and its members to the government, the Better Regulation Task Force and the Law Society, and consulting with consumer representatives in the construction of a regulatory code for the claims industry, said the federation.

Burns-Howell will also be active in promoting the CSF and its aims to the general public, reassuring them that when they make a claim the companies and organisations offering services will act in accordance with CSF guidelines, it added.

Work to produce an outline code of practice for claims intermediaries and suggestions for new consumer guidance is in the final stages and due to be published later this month.
