Prime Minister Tony Blair's new ministerial appointments have been announced in the wake of Stephen Byers' resignation yesterday.
Alistair Darling is to replace Stephen Byers as the Secretary of State for Transport. He was formerly Secretary of State for Work and Pensions.
Darling will only take over the transport side of Byers' job, while the regional aspects of the job will be given to Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott.

Meanwhile Paul Boating will move from his job as Financial Secretary to the Treasury to become Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
Sir Richard Mottram, the transport department's top civil servant, is also being moved to be Permanent Secretary at Work and Pensions.
Those leaving government include George Foulkes (Scotland Office), Alan Whitehead (DTLR), Angela Eagle (Home Office), Keith Bradley (Home Office) and Graham Stringer (Whips Office).
