Canopius Managing Agents has appointed Michael Manning as divisional North American property underwriter.

The appointment is subject to regulatory approval.

Prior to his appointment, Manning was director of underwriting at Gerling of Lloyd's and active underwriter for Syndicate 1206.

Canopius underwriting director Jim Giordano said: “Michael's appointment is a key step in our strategic development in the US marketplace and I am delighted that he has chosen to join Canopius.”

Manning is the latest in a series of senior, high profile appointments at Canopius.

The firm recently appointed leading marine underwriter Joyce Webb, a former chair of the Joint Cargo Committee, while Cees Schrauwers, former managing director of Aviva International, and Jock Birney, former managing director of Securitas Capital, were also recently appointed as non-executive directors.
