Almost 60% of attendees at the CII conference believe the FSA should make qualifications mandatory.
An audience poll found that 57% believe the FSA should set mandatory qualifications, while 40% of the audience disagreed.
CII director general Sandy Scott was among those against mandatory qualifications.
Scott said that in its discussions with the FSA, the CII has maintained its position that companies should be free to decide the level and type of training appropriate for their staff.
