Insurance industry already self-funds training says Thomson

David Thomson, director of policy & public affairs at the Chartered Insurance Institute has said in a letter in the FT that insurers already self-fund training and do not need government training levies.

He writes: “There is little or no public funding, and the industry, supported by professional bodies such as ourselves, provides the infrastructure, capacity and leadership to drive skills to support future growth.

“Perhaps this self-funded employer-led model might be a better option for the financial services and other business sectors than options like levies for this government to pursue in its attempt to prioritise future skills funding to support recovery?”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
