Doing it yourself gets a health warning.

DIY disasters are costing insurers, with careless or incompetent home improvers making over half a million home insurance claims.

According to Confused.com, nearly six million people have had mishaps with their DIY.

Men were the more accident prone when undertaking jobs around the home, with one in five admitting to a mishap compared with just 8% of women.

Simon Lamble, product director at Confused.com, said: “It is important to remain savvy at all times. A simple drilling job could turn into an extremely expensive claim if, for example, electrical wiring is not taken into account.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
