DIY disasters are costing insurers, with careless or incompetent home improvers making over half a million home insurance claims.

According to, nearly six million people have had mishaps with their DIY.

Men were the more accident prone when undertaking jobs around the home, with one in five admitting to a mishap compared with just 8% of women.

Simon Lamble, product director at, said: “It is important to remain savvy at all times. A simple drilling job could turn into an extremely expensive claim if, for example, electrical wiring is not taken into account.”
