Insurance specialist law firm DWF is looking to buy businesses to develop its claims handling expertise for insurance companies.

The firm, which acts for Royal & SunAlliance and Norwich Union, confirmed it was in talks to acquire a number of businesses.

Partner Anthony Hughes said DWF, which has offices across the north of England, was looking at claims investigation and claims handling businesses.

He said the firm wanted to become more involved at the earlier stage of the claims process, providing outsourced services to insurers, the Lloyd’s market and large corporates.

In January, DWF merged with Ricksons to form one of the UK’s largest insurance practices with a fee income of £22m. The combined firm has total fee income of £51m and employs around 800 people.

Clients include Royal and SunAlliance, Admiral, Equity Red Star and Allianz Cornhill, Norwich Union, Motor Insurers' Bureau, QBE, Fortis and Groupama.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
