Irish MEP questions failure of insurers to cope with floods

Michel Barnier, European Commissioner for internal market and services, has told European Parliament in Strasbourg that the Commission is to investigate insurance schemes covering national catastrophes, in particular flooding, EU Business reports.

Irish MEP, Seán Kelly, asked about the "inability of the market to provide adequate cover" against flooding in certain Member States.

The research will look for examples of best practice and to fix priorities at an appropriate level. The Commission will discuss the results with Member States, insurance experts and other interested parties at its conference in 2011.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
