Canadian court sees hiking and cycling Facebook pics

Vancouver woman Mirae Mayenburg who claimed disabling injuries from a car accident had Facebook photos of her cycling and hiking used in court against her by Insurance Corp of British Columbia (ICBC), the National Post reports.

Supreme Court Justice Elliott Myers, awarded Mayenburg more than $50,000 in damages, ruling that her injuries had a minimal effect on her lifestyle or her ability to carry on with the activities that she previously enjoyed, but did affect her quality of life.

ICBC spokesman Mark Jan Vrem said investigators routinely use Facebook to investigate personal injury claims. "As a matter of course, we have a duty to protect all our customers," he said.

Facebook, founded five years ago, now has 300 million users.
