Bupa is doubling the number of air miles that intermediaries can earn for each personal scheme sold in September.

Intermediaries will be able to earn 500 air miles for each personal scheme in September, compared with 250 currently offered under the promotion.

So far, one broker has earned 20,000 air miles in the scheme. A total of 160,000 miles have been given away since May this year.

But the company is not doubling the number of air miles earned by selling company schemes.

To claim air miles, intermediaries need to fill in a form on Bupa's intermediary website www.BUPA.co.uk/intercom. They then need to detail the private medical insurance, long-term care, critical illness or income protection schemes they have sold each month.

Bupa is the only company in the healthcare industry to offer air miles.
