Independent Insurance
Independent appoints long-time employees Steve Coates and Patricia Clarkson to new positions.
Coates, who joined Independent in 1991, has moved from his position as UK property underwriting manager to UK provincial fire and accident manager. Clarkson takes over as group claims manager after a stint as claims manager for the regions. She has been working at Independent for eight years.


Trenwick International
Insurer Trenwick International makes a number of staff changes, one of which affects its Paris branch.
Former director of treaty underwriting Paul Tester is appointed underwriting director with responsibility for specialist risk and treaty underwriting in London and Paris. David Leaper is appointed Trenwick's new business development director and Paul Cousins will now run the treaty underwriting department.


Charrington's
Richard Oliver and David Watts are appointed to the board of Charrington's, the Lloyd's service company for DJ Pye Syndicate 962.Oliver was previously the construction liability manager. Watts was previously the London property and accounts manager.


Broker

The Bollington Group
Phil Jones is appointed IT manager at The Bollington Group. He will be responsible for developing new initiatives and IT training throughout the Cheshire brokers firm.


Ward Evans Group
Ward Evans Group makes five appointments at its Glasgow office. Karen Stewart joins as an account executive following employment as an associate director at Marsh UK. Brigid Cleary joins from Corporate and Personal Independent Brokers in County Kildare, where she was employed as a broker. Marion Hood joins as a trainee account executive after six years' experience as account handler/client executive at Marsh UK. Alison Britton is appointed as trainee employee benefits consultant following time at Glasgow Caledonian University where she was studying for a BA (Hons) in financial services. After gaining experience at Davson Prichard Limited as a secretary, Tracey Hannah is appointed receptionist.


Healthsure
Howard Blythe is appointed product manager at Healthsure. He was previously marketing manager at Events Are Us. Jason Cox is appointed field account manager at Healthsure. He was previously a recruitment consultant.


Davis Group
Five new directors are appointed to the Davis Group. Peter Bridges (divisional director) and Bryn Jones (associate director) are heading up Davis Specialist Risks the new wholesale/ retail division of The Davis Group. Mandy Turnbull is appointed as associate director. Formerly at Axa, Tony Lees has also taken on a new role as divisional director of Davis Schemes. The appointments also include Henrietta Smart as the new associate director for marketing and human resources.


Select & Protect
Malcolm Watson is appointed key accounts manager at Select & Protect, the Essex-based underwriting agency.
His role will be to further develop relationships with Select & Protect's national accounts, and create new ties with other ventures.


Sampo Industrial Insurance
Sampo Industrial Insurance's Midlands team expands with the appointment of regional property underwriter Adam Lewis. Lewis, formerly a senior property underwriter at AIG Europe, will work with regional casualty underwriter David Martin at Sampo's Birmingham office. Sampo is a provider of risk management solutions, specialising in the pulp and paper, power generation, chemical, information technology, construction and food and drink industries.

Davies Wallis Foyster
Four new partners are appointed by Davies Wallis Foyster to manage growth in the firm's corporate, insurance and dispute resolution work, taking the partnership up to 49 individuals. Mike Hudson will handle corporate work, Stuart Irons will take dispute resolution and both Chris Lagar and Kieran Walshe will work on insurance


Reynolds Porter Chamberlain
Insurance law firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain (RPC) has a number of new staff joining from GAB Robins and Crawfords.Former GAB Robins UK liability director Paul Townsend and former Crawfords special risks division director Tim Bradford will specialise in credit, political risk and contingency insurance at RPC. They will bring with them Ray Chmura of GAB Robbins and Sophie Campbell and Neil Stewart of Crawfords. Bradford said RPC was offering the team both independence and the resources of a large practice.


Gateley Wareing
Midland's law firm Gateley Wareing has appointed a new partner and associate. Philip Jones will join the firm as partner, working in banking, insolvency and commercial finance. Mukesh Patel will start as an associate with partner Mark Wilson at the disputes resolution group in Leicester.

Quest Gates
Barrister and loss adjuster Mike Ward joins liability and loss adjusters The Quest Gates Partnership
Ward, who has 15 years experience in the insurance industry, was called to the bar on October 12 and will work at Quest Gates as managing adjuster. Quest Gates partner Martin Mathieson said Ward's expertise would provide significant savings to clients and enable complex claims to be resolved more efficiently.


Keane
Business and IT firm Keane appoints Chris Price as its first chief information officer. Price will lead a team of 22 staff responsible for ensuring the internal support department underpins Keane's plans for growth.


Other

Spinnaker Consulting
Marine recruitment specialists Spinnaker Consulting appoints Tony Townshend as a senior consultant.
Townshend, a human resource management Masters graduate and former seafarer, spent 18 years both at sea and on-shore with Mobil before becoming director of Marix Services in Singapore. He will start at Spinnaker, which supplies shipping, off-shore and transport recruits to the insurance industry, on November 1.


Liberian International Ship & Corporate Registry
The new UK general manager of the Liberian International Ship and Corporate Registry is solicitor Helen Gurr. Gurr previously spent five years at sea and was registrar of ships at the Barbados Ship Registry, before joining London law firm Field.
