James Thornton is appointed financial director of Old Mutual Financial Services, the newly established UK holding company. Thornton is currently deputy finance director of Old Mutual. He succeeds Robert Elkington, who is taking up a new position within Old Mutual.
Towergate
Towergate Stafford Knight has strengthened its team to further the development of its PA and travel division. Ian Gadsdon is appointed divisional director, to head the team. Steve Green, Maureen Dugdale and Mathew Gissing complete the senior PA and travel team.

Sandra Kemish is appointed divisional managing director of SBJ Benefit Consultants, Birmingham.

Mike Hofmeyr is appointed non-executive chairman of Willis in South Africa. Hofmeyr is a well-known and highly respected figure in both the South African and the international insurance marketplace.

Simon Ellen is appointed as non-executive chairman to the board of Opus Holdings.
Ellen runs his own financial services consultancy and has an extensive background in insurance, investment banking and asset management. He is currently investment director to United Insurance Group and a consultant to the Royal London Insurance Group. He was previously managing director of Global Capital Markets at CIBC Wood Gundy.
LPSO Service Centre
Steve Reid is appointed manager of the Lloyd's Policy Signing Office Service Centre.
The LPSO Service Centre will offer a range of back office administrative services to Lloyd's managing agents from January 2001.

Gordon Hall is appointed senior assistant solicitor of the property investment and development team at Radcliffes. Hall will specialise in construction and professional indemnity work. He was previously with Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.

Davies Lavery makes its fourth senior appointment in as many weeks. Jonathan Suckling and Dennis Wilkins are appointed partners, specialising in professional indemnity and insurance directors and officers. Suckling and Wilkins have brought with them their existing Lloyd's and London market clients and entire caseload.

Simon Hancock is appointed finance director of the 5GM board. Hancock joins from Integrity Software where he was head of corporate development. 5GM is a software firm that develops and sells infrastructure technology for business to business secure internet communications.

Ben Strickland is appointed director of the Global Financial Services team AT Kearney's Executive Search practice. Strickland was previously with recruitment firm Odgers.
