Gupta's aria at the Imia.

It’s hard to say whether being serenaded by an insurance professional in a Scottish castle is a beautiful experience or simply an uncomfortable one.

Either way, there was no choice in the matter at this year’s conference of the International Association of Engineering Insurers.

It could have been the nip of whisky or the copious amounts of wine served to the guests during a candlelit dinner in Stirling Castle, but JK Gupta, general manager of New India Assurance, decided he just had to offer an Indian love song to the bemused crowd.

Gupta got hold of a microphone and, without any musical backup, sang his heart out in the regal setting of the castle’s Great Hall. You had to give him credit – he certainly entertained.
