Halifax General Insurance has created 70 jobs in Leeds with the opening of a new call centre.

In recent years, the insurance division of Halifax has experienced rapid expansion. Since 1995 it has increased from 50 staff to more than 1400 today, operating across four sites.

Alex Harrison, head of direct sales and marketing at Halifax General Insurance, said: "The new sales centre and the creation of 70 new jobs represents the next stage in the development of HGI.

"We have seen a huge expansion in all areas of our business and the new centre, as well as the increase in personnel, will provide us with the platform to achieve our future growth plans. It will also help us to ensure that our customers continue to receive the best possible service from Halifax General Insurance.

"Key to the business are, of course, our people. We already have some of the best staff retention rates in the industry and, following our move into the city centre, we hope that the unique environment we've created will further improve these figures.

"We consulted staff about the type of place they wanted to work in and brought in a team of designers to try and realise these observations. We've created a modern, fresh and vibrant environment, which we hope all of our sales colleagues will enjoy working in."
