A survey of those registered with insurance recruitment consultants IPS Group revealed an increased number of candidates registering for regional jobs during the last year, said the CII.
Competition for practitioners with greater skills, especially of global and multinational risks, has also seen regional salaries grow. As a result IPS is regularly filling jobs paying in excess of £40,000 for roles outside London, said the CII.
The survey of over 50,000 applicants revealed a disparity of 17% - 20% on salaries between London and the regions, but an increasing number of those using the recruitment agency said they were willing to move out of the capital.
IPS Group director Richard Hodson, said: “Our consultants in Leeds, Manchester and Birmingham have observed a greater number of candidates from London registering for regional positions and while there has been some curiosity in the past, regional employers are now taking much greater interest.
“One of the drivers is that larger brokers in particular are looking for candidates with large case experience, which is more frequently gained in London.
“This is due in part to the fact that many larger commercial clients are now handled from regional offices whereas in past years this servicing was often carried out, or at least controlled, from London.”
The findings, featured in a Market Data file is published on the CII website, www.cii.co.uk/is/salaries.
