The Law Society has withdrawn its threat to censure DAS over its criticism of the society's conditional fee insurance scheme.

The society had accused DAS of making untrue criticisms of the society's new Accident Line product, arranged by Abbey Legal Protection, in a promotional release.

Last week Temple Legal Protection underwriting director Chris Wait lined up behind DAS in criticism of the society's scheme.

"Now that the Law Society has entered the commercial game, they should learn to take criticism without throwing their dummy out of the pram," he said.

A Law Society spokeswoman said the society had been concerned over what DAS had said but would take no further action.

DAS managing director Paul Asplin said he was not at all surprised the society was not going to take its threat further.

"They were disputing that our policy was wider than theirs and now they've obviously read it," he said.

"We knew what we said was correct so we were never particularly concerned."
