Next week will finally see an in-depth Government response to the Royal Commission's study into long-term care.

Reports in some media claimed the Chancellor Gordon Brown would reveal details of a £1.3bn spending plan, which has been in the pipeline for over a year.

It was claimed that the Government has agreed to pay for all nursing costs, while accommodation costs would lie with the individual, depending on a means test.

But in his Comprehensive Spending Review, Brown said the Government's response to the Royal Commission would be given next week as part of the Health and Social Services Budget.

PPP Lifetime Care marketing manager Paul Bennett said: “Hopefully the announcement they make will provide some clarity over who does and who does not get support for long term care.

“But the devil is in the detail and we will have a clearer idea when we see the Government's full response to the commission.”
