Improveline, the repair network, is piloting a mobile claims management tool that will register, process and, eventually, action a claim from the insured's home.

The software package being developed in-house by Improveline will run on a tablet PC linked through satellite technology to the company's in-house computer.

Claims will be entered on the PC through a series of menus, giving the company control over repair costings and allowing the claim to be signed off immediately.

The system is designed to allow repair work to be booked in immediately. The company claims this would, significantly improve customer service and allow insurers greater access to how a claim was progressing.

Improveline operations director Joep Ketelar said: "The system will allow us to streamline and control the claims process."

The company hopes to roll out the system across its 15 consultants early next year.
