Marsh has launched a governance model and consulting service to help company boards assess their growing social and ethical responsibilities.

The model, developed by Marsh Risk Consulting, is called Reputation@risk.

Managing consultant David Abrahams said that a company's reputation could be at risk if its managers did not deal with the non-financial expectations of the company's investors and stakeholders.

“Today's CEO faces pressure to respond on social, ethical and environmental matters from a variety of opinion formers and stakeholders, both inside and outside the company,” he said.

“Sometimes even the demands of shareholders may be in apparent conflict.”

Abrahams said the model would give boards a basis that they could use to navigate through the many issues upon which they must act.
