Insurance magnate’s son cleared of uninsured driving

Sean Quinn Jnr appeared in court after failing to produce a driving license and valid insurance document when he was stopped by Gardai in April last year, the Independent reports.

Brought from his prison cell, Quinn had the charges struck out during a brief hearing. The 33-year-old was jailed in July for contempt of court after being found guilty of moving assets beyond the reach of the former Anglo Irish Bank following the collapse of his family’s insurance empire. He had forgotten to produce the documents, but a valid insurance certificate was produced on Thursday morning.

Judge John O’Connor noted that Quinn had been insured at the time and agreed to strike out the case.

Next month the contempt case is due to back before the High Court, while the Supreme Court is also due to hear an appeal against the contempt.
