UK life assurer Legal & General (L&G) has reported a 27% rise in new business sales for 2001 to £801m and has forecast further growth in market share in 2002.
The UK's third largest insurer said total UK new business was up 32% at £710m, but international new business for the year was down about 3% at £91m.
European business continued to show strong growth in the year with new business sales up 21% to €63m (£39.1m) from €52m (£32.3m) a year ago.
In the U.S., however, new annual premium business fell to $76m (£53.3m) from $93m (£65.2m).
The company said new institutional fund management sales were up 4% to £13.2bn. The business added another 231 pension funds to its client list.
