Homeowners Friendly Society has launched an accident insurance policy for the over 50s. It offers lump sums of up to £6,000, but the payment is doubled if the injury was the result of an assault.

The first month's cover is free and premiums start at less than £5 for a single policyholder and under £9 for joint policyholders. The Over 50s Accident Protection Policy does not require a medical certificate or doctor's report and is available to all UK residents up to the age of 85.

Andrew Haigh, Homeowners' sales and marketing director, said that about three quarters of a million people aged 50 and over received hospital treatment each year, just as a result of accidents in the home.

“There's clearly a need for a policy such as ours, which covers injuries including fractures, burns and internal injuries,” he said.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
