The title of "Chartered Insurance Broker" has moved a step nearer recognition after the Chartered Insurance Institute Council gave its approval to the application.
If successful, the new title will calm some of the concerns of existing brokers who feel their status will be diminished once the Insurance Brokers Registration Council is repealed.
Final Privy Council approval will be required before any new title can be introduced but the CII is hopeful that it will receive informal clearance in time to allow proposals to be brought before a special general meeting.
If approved by the Privy Council, the changes would mean that CII fellows and associates that hold a title and are practising independent intermediaries acting on behalf of a client, would be able to transfer to the new title.
Meanwhile, the CII has published its list of office-bearers for the 2000/2001 session beginning in September.
The list will receive formal ratification at the annual general meeting on September 27.
The list is:
SunAlliance
The chairmen of the principal committees will be:
J Rothschild Assurance
