’By Miles will no longer offer quotes to new or renewing customers and the customer base will be wound down over the next 18 months,’ says spokesperson
Aviva has revealed that By Miles will no longer offer quotes to new or renewing customers following a strategic review.

By Miles, a pay as you drive motor insurance provider, was acquired by Direct Line Group (DLG) in April 2023.
After Aviva completed its acquisition of DLG earlier this year, it undertook a strategic review of its businesses.
”As a result, a decision has been made to divest from By Miles, the pay as you drive motor insurance provider,” an Aviva spokesperson said.
“Consequently, By Miles will no longer offer quotes to new or renewing customers and the customer base will be wound down over the next 18 months.”
What it means for customers
By Miles’ proprietary, cloud-based platform supported simple car insurance products that allowed customers to pay only for the miles they drive.

When purchasing the firm in 2023, DLG said By Miles had sold over 100,000 policies since launch and was writing £26m of gross written premium (GWP).
An Aviva spokesperson said that “our customers remain our absolute priority and all existing By Miles policies remain valid and fully in force, with customers continuing to receive uninterrupted cover and service until the end of their policy term”.
”We’d like to thank our customers for using By Miles for their insurance and we will continue to support them during this process.”
