Veteran says it has been an ’honour leading our market-leading risk team, driving a sustainability focus for our customer and contributing to Axa’s success’
Douglas Barnett, Axa Broker UK director of commercial customer risk management and sustainability, is retiring after 24 years with the insurer.
In a post on LinkedIn, Barnett said he would retire at the end of the year and that it had been an ”honour leading our market-leading risk team, driving a sustainability focus for our customer and contributing to Axa’s success”.
According to LinkedIn, Barnett joined Axa in 2001 as head of customer risk management and became a director in 2018. He took up his latest role in February 2025.
He said: ”Over the years I have worked on projects with passionate colleagues in the UK and Ireland, but also in many countries across the Axa world including, more recently, with the teams at Axa Climate in Paris and Axa Global Business Services in India.
“I have also been lucky to engage with many people I can now call friend across other insurers, brokers and many companies and organisations that are too many to mention here - you know who you are.”

Barnett said that when he retires, he will have the opportunity to put some time in the fire and security sectors through non-executive director and advisory positions.
“Thank you to all my colleagues over many years,” he continued.
”Axa Broker UK you are a fantastic business with great people, culture and provide opportunity to develop as far as your ambition stretches.
”Still a few weeks of full engagement, however. I am looking forward to staying connected from January onwards.”
