This acquisition is the firm’s third since Alan and Thomas became part of GRP

Global Risk Partners’ (GRP) southern hub Alan and Thomas Insurance Group has bought Bournemouth-based broker Bournemouth Insurance Group (BIG).

Following the deal, which has received regulatory approval, BIG will remain in its Winton office. All of the team - including directors Jason Hicks and Paul Hicks - will stay on under the new ownership.

This acquisition follows Alan and Thomas’ purchase of Aquilla Insurance Brokers in November 2021.

Poole-based Alan and Thomas has so far acquired 13 businesses since it was founded in 1975. BIG marks its third purchase since the business became part of GRP in 2017.

Local community footprint

Founded as a family business in 1972, BIG writes commercial and personal lines insurance, including private clients, fleet, commercial property, directors’ and officers’ (D&O), cyber and marine.

Julian Boughton, Alan and Thomas’ chief executive, said: “BIG has a local community footprint and I have followed [its] progress closely over the years.

“I am impressed by the team there and I’m really pleased they have chosen us to support them on their future journey.”

Boughton commended the BIG team on their “passion to get the very best deals for their customers”.

Jason Hicks added: “Alan and Thomas are one of the leading brokerages in this part of the world and we share the same commitment to high quality client servicing as they do.

”Alan and Thomas and the wider GRP group are the right custodians for BIG and our clients as we look ahead to the future.

“Becoming part of Alan and Thomas was the natural step for us to enable us to accelerate our growth and take advantage of the opportunities for high quality broking as the economy emerges from the pandemic.”
