Alex Ley, chief executive and co-founder at Scrub AI, explains his firm’s entry to the Excellence in AI category

1. Why did you put yourselves forward for the category?

We put ourselves forward because Scrub AI was built to solve a deep, long-standing problem in the market – and this category reflects exactly that.

Our platform brings together Nicola’s industry experience, Andrew’s NLP background and my product experience to create AI that genuinely understands insurance data.

Over the past five years, we’ve trained and refined models that clean data with accuracy the market hasn’t seen before. This award felt like the right place to share that journey and highlight what our clients are achieving with it.

2. What do you think makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

What makes Scrub different is that it’s been shaped by real market needs from day one.

Our machine learning models have been trained on real insurance data over several years, giving them the context and accuracy needed to handle the most complex files.

With over 50 specialised models working together, the platform delivers reliable results in minutes and removes long-standing operational bottlenecks.

The improvements we’re seeing, from faster turnaround times to the ability for our clients to grow and expand their business, show the meaningful impact our technology is making across the market.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Winning this award would be a significant milestone for us. It would be a testament to the dedication and expertise our team has invested in building Scrub AI.

It would show our clients and partners that we’re delivering real value, solving real problems and constantly innovating.

For us, it’s a clear signal that we’re moving in the right direction and it would motivate us to keep pushing our AI even further, creating more impact in the insurance industry and beyond.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
