Joanne Sykes, divisional director of the UK broker at Markel

The care sector is critical for the UK. It faces unique challenges and deserves recognition. Markel UK is proud to be one of the only insurers that caters to this dedicated space consistently, throughout the hard times and the good.

Our over 10,000 policyholders provide care and support to vulnerable people with complex physical, mental or social needs against a backdrop of serious challenges, including lack of funding, staff shortages and increasing demand as the population ages and social demographics develop.

2. What makes your entry stand out and why should you win the award?

Markel is a leading insurer in the care sector. Our entry highlights that a specialist approach is needed to ensure customers are properly protected. We support care providers to prevent, mitigate and de-escalate claims and to be the first port of call when a claim does arise.

Bespoke wordings cover unique industry risks, such as abuse and invaluable business, legal and HR advice is on hand for daily challenges.

Markel Care Practitioners, a jewel in the crown, provides a unique, specialist consultancy service that helps customers prevent claims and ensure they meet strict Care Quality Commission and Ofsted regulations.

3. What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

Markel is known for its specialist approach to insurance risks, so to win the Specialist Insurer of the Year award would be a doubly proud moment.

Added to that is the fact that our entry is focussed on the UK care industry, a sector that is incredibly important to our society and one that deserves the full support of the insurance industry.
