‘The Yorkshire Children’s Charity Sports Days were a truly special experience and something that will stay with us for a long time,’ says chief executive
More than 400 schoolchildren from Hull took part in charity sports days supported by insurance broker Lycetts, as part of a programme aimed at giving disadvantaged children access to new experiences.

A total of 410 children attended the events at Burton Constable Hall on 29 and 30 September, organised by Yorkshire Children’s Charity (YCC) through its Schools Out programme.
The events were funded with support from Benefact Group, Lycetts’ parent company, while 22 of the broker’s employees volunteered across the two days.
Ian Barclay, chief executive at Lycetts, said: “The Yorkshire Children’s Charity Sports Days were a truly special experience and something that will stay with us for a long time.
“The work YCC does to create opportunities and experiences for children who might otherwise miss out is remarkable and it was wonderful to see that impact first-hand.”
Creating opportunities
Activities included athletics, cricket sessions delivered by Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, football with Hull City Ladies and rugby with Wakefield Trinity. The sporting organisations provided their time free of charge.

Charlotte Hopkins, head of programme at YCC, said the events gave children the opportunity to try new activities and spend time outdoors with their peers.
“There was so much energy and laughter with children having a go at something new, cheering one another on and simply enjoying being outside with their friends,” she said.
The sports days form part of YCC’s wider work supporting children and young people experiencing disadvantage across Yorkshire.
