’His promotion to this leadership role reflects our long-term outlook for equine and livestock at Markel,’ says divisional managing director

Markel has promoted Oliver Atkin to head of bloodstock for the London market to bolster its equine and livestock offering.

In his new role, Atkin will lead the bloodstock team by setting the growth strategy, as well as identifying and developing innovative products to support brokers and customers.

Atkin, who was most recently the bloodstock senior underwriter, will be based in London and report to Juliet Redfern, divisional managing director of equine and livestock at Markel International in London and France.

“Ollie’s promotion to this leadership role reflects our long-term outlook for equine and livestock at Markel and under his leadership, it will also give everyone in the team the opportunity to develop and progress, so we can continue driving profitable growth and being there for customers year in, year out into the future,” Redfern said.

Experience

Atkin joined Markel in 2017 from MS Amlin, where he had been a bloodstock underwriter for two years.

Before this, he was a politicial risks assistant underwriter at Ascot.

Redfern said Atkin’s knowledge and expertise would be key to developing policies.

“Ollie is incredibly service-minded and works, as everyone does in our team, to provide the high level of service our brokers and customers get and expect from Markel, from providing a quote, to collaborating with a customer on a new product or service,” Redfern added.
