Norwich Union (NU) extended its flood mapping capabilities this week by acquiring Intermap's 3D terrain map of Scotland.

The digital terrain model uses airborne radar to give detailed and accurate information on the height of land in river catchments.

Research from Dundee University has indicated that the flood risk in parts of Scotland will double in the next 80 years due to climate change.

The flood map is the best tool for assessing risk for individual properties, according to Jim Boulton, leader of NU's flood team.
