Norwich Union stalwart Derek Plummer has been appointed as director of corporate partnerships at CGNU, taking over from Bob Newton who stepped down in July amid rumours of a rift with general chief executive Patrick Snowball.

Newton, who was previously with CGU before its merger with Norwich Union this year, lasted just four months in the position and cited personal reasons for his departure.

Plummer, who has been caretaker since July, is now formally appointed to the position, and moves to Perth. He was with NU for 30 years where he rose to become the company's marketing director.

In his new position, Plummer will seek to develop NU's position in branded and non-branded insurance services, working with both financial and other corporate partners.

Meanwhile Newton has switched to set up a regulatory team for CGNU. He will stay with the company until December this year.
