Heart patient cover
Groupama and Park Row Associates have teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to launch an insurance package for heart patients.

This will be aimed at the many patients who have problems obtaining cover.

The package includes motor insurance administered by the Touchline Services panel of insurers. Touchline will not impose exclusions for heart disease-related medical conditions, provided the Drivers and Vehicle Licencing Agency has been notified.

The insurance was constructed for the foundation after research by insurance consultancy IMCG into the difficulties faced by heart patients.

Point One health
Support services provider Point One is expanding its range of member services to include healthcare.

The new services include schemes from Bupa, Norwich Union, Swiss Life and Standard Life Healthcare.

Head of sales Mike Buckley said: "The move into healthcare seemed a natural extension of our business."

Point One also announced that Scottish Widows has been added to its list of core protection providers.

ABI e-risk study
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has commissioned a study from researchers at Glasgow Caledonian University into the emergence and management of e-risk.

The team from the department of risk and financial services will be investigating e-commerce risks faced by private sector companies, and the best ways of tackling these.

ABI head of research Richard Taylor, said: "Many businesses are unaware of the potential problems, or how to manage this emerging risk. This research should help them do that."

The research is being supported by the British Insurance Brokers' Association and the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers in Industry and Commerce.

GAB weather data
GAB Robins has teamed up with the Met Office to provide instant UK weather information online.

WeatherEYE gives analysis of official weather reports, filtered by date and postcode.

The service has been sold to Churchill. It will also be used by Pearl, Prudential and Nationwide and can highlight exceptional weather conditions.

It is hoped online weather data will enable storm-related claims to be settled faster.

NIG's farm venture
Insurer NIG has strengthened its ties with the agricultural industry by opening a new centre in Gloucester.

The centre will house both NIG and FarmWeb staff and provide up to 30 new jobs.

NIG said the launch is in line with its commercial division strategy of providing specialist underwriting and support to brokers.

NIG spokesman Colin Crofts commented: "We look forward to working in partnership with FarmWeb to grow our account profitability while at the same time recognising the changing needs of the agricultural community."
