Royal & SunAlliance (R&SA) has set its sights on six types of commercial lines that it will target for profit.

It is understood that R&SA will target retail, professional risks, plastics, printers, electrical and one other area.

Another six areas will be added later in the year including food and drink.

A market source said that the move is intended to reflect the areas of business that R&SA is best suited to, while giving a good return.

The source denied rumours that R&SA is pulling out of sectors including civil engineering.

She added that there are a number of less preferred business sectors including construction, education, agriculture, housing associations and health services.
