Lloyd's Register-Fairplay has commissioned IT service provider Rebus iS to log and maintain a CD-format of the Register of Ships.

The register holds details of more than 100,000 ships. It provides critical data to shipping customers worldwide.

Besides issuing quarterly CDs to Lloyd's clients, Rebus has set up fortnightly database updates via the internet, using the software provided by Rebus's partner iOra.

Project director for Lloyd's Register-Fairplay, Trevor Downing, said: “The CD-based register allows customers to integrate their own data with that of Lloyd's Register-Fairplay database to provide information that is unique to a particular company.”
