A new initiative to breed a “masterclass” of 21st-century brokers has been launched by Royal & SunAlliance.

The Energy Masterclass aims to equip so-called “energy” brokers with high-level business skills in areas including leadership, communication, team building, brand image and ecommerce.

The first 18 energy brokers have passed through the inaugural masterclass after a three-day session with specialists from RSA, Lancaster University and customer relations consultants PN Associates.

The Energy initiative, launched in March, provides long-term business support for independent brokers who have been earmarked for success on the back of their business performance, drive and innovation.

The company has 56 energy brokers and more than 100 new ones are expected to enrol by the end of the year.

Energy business manager Steve Ginn said: “Masterclass follows a recognition by our forward-looking broker customers that skilled people equate to competitive advantage in today's marketplace.”

Broker Phil Coffey of Griffiths & Armour said: “The sessions were thorough with plenty of hands-on role play.”
