British businesses are struggling to cope with increasing employment problems, according to Abbey Legal Protection.

In its latest survey Abbey Legal found that hundreds of businesses are failing to overcome employment problems because they are ignoring recent legislative changes.

Murray Fairclough, director of legal services said: "The results are, at once, alarming and insightful. Clearly new legislation such as parental leave and the right to take time off in the event of a family emergency are becoming every day problems for British businesses."

Of most concern to Abbey Legal was the fact that only 1 in 3 businesses were aware of the increases in the minimum wage on 1 October. A further 78% also had no knowledge of the changes to the Working Time Regulations.

Fairclough added: "The ignorance of new employment regulations is less of a surprise but of deep concern. British businesses are prone to breaking the law through ignorance."
