SVB, the Lloyd's insurer, has signed up liability expert Peter Matson.

The former head of underwriting at liability specialist PRI will join SVB's management team on 19 January.

His appointment is expected to bring a significant boost to SVB's growing UK D&O and PI business.

Rumours had been circulating about Matson's future after PRI was bought by BRIT last year, including reports of multiple bidders trying to attract his talent.

His dealings with SVB were reported in Insurance Times' stockwatch column in November.

His resignation from BRIT was announced in July.

SVB chief executive Matthew Fosh said Matson had not yet been assigned to a particular role within the company.

He said: "He has no specific title. In terms of a specific role we aren't there yet. We just wanted to kill any speculation and say yes, he's joining us."

Fosh added that Matson would help SVB develop its distribution initiatives, which include virtual insurer Fusion.

He said: "Our mission is to restore market rating, reputation and shareholder value. Peter's arrival validates that and is testimony to the progress we've already made."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
