United Insurance Brokers has appointed Martyn Black as head of its new captive and risk management division. Black previously worked for Shell International where held the positions of regional manager, risk and insurance and insurance adviser.

Axa
Axa has appointed former Land Rover brand director Andy Hurst to develop its insurance brands in the UK. Hurst partly masterminded Land Rover's successful launch of its series 2 Discovery and Freelander vehicles and saw the car giant's sales grow by 26% last year. Mark Wood, Axa group chief executive, said: "We have accelerated awareness of the Axa brand, and our next task is to position Axa as the leading financial services company in the UK."

SVB Holdings
SVB holdings has appointed former Independent Insurance assistant general managers Kevin Pallett and Geoff Crisp to head its new commercial insurance facility for brokers – Fusion Insurance. Pallett and Crisp will be joined by Stuart Pettet, currently assistant general manager at Independent, from January.

Chubb Europe
Chubb Europe has appointed Michael Casella its European Zone Nordic regional manager and European Zone marketing manager based in Brussels. Casella will be responsible for directing Chubb's business activities in Sweden, Denmark and Norway. He will also co-ordinate marketing activities and broker and customer relations throughout Europe. He was formerly with Chubb in the US.

Independent Insurance
Independent Insurance has appointed Chris Trickett its group facilities manager at its Cheadle office. Trickett has been a facilities manager at Independent for four years.

Medicash
Medicash has appointed Ken Arnold its company secretary to drive its business development programme. Arnold has worked for the cash plan provider for ten years, most recently as finance officer.

Kiln
Kiln has appointed Keith Grant its company secretary. Grant has worked as group company secretary for Commercial Union and RBS Trust Bank, now Bank of New York Europe.

Goodhealth
Dawn Watson is being transferred from Goodhealth's Horsham headquarters to take up a customer liaison role in the company's Hong Kong office. She will be providing sales back-up and core support services to groups and brokers world-wide.

McGuire Insurances
Belfast insurance brokers McGuire Insurances has appointed John MacManus a director. MacManus joined the company in 1980 and gained his ACII qualification in 1985.

Peoples Choice
Telebroker Peoples Choice has promoted Pam Mellor to the post of customer services manager. Mellor has worked for Peoples Choice since its launch in 1998 and has 20 years experience in the industry, most recently with AGF and Sun Alliance.

Crispin Speers & Partners
International insurance and reinsurance brokers at Lloyd's Crispin Speers & Partners has appointed Michelle Egan to handle its key international accident, health and travel accounts. She previously dealt with international clients at Cigna Re.

The Beckett Group
Bury-based brokers the Beckett group has appointed three insurance specialists; brothers Gordon and Jeff Cox and Chris Adams. All were directors of another Bury broker, Bernard Knope and Partners which recently went into receivership.

Policy Master
Policy Master has made several appointments following the launch of its new broker system Sirius. Tim Burrill has been promoted to head the Sirius sales team as national sales manager. He is joined by new sales staff Ian Arnott, Grant Scott and Andrew Dale.

Keane
Information and technology firm Keane has appointed Nigel Gardner its sales director. He will be responsible for new sales, recruitment, development and coaching of the sales team. Gardner has worked for 18 years in the IT industry, most recently as a client executive at IBM.

Guardian IT Group
Garry Growns is appointed managing director of Guardian IT Group's subsidiary Ixguardian which operates dedicated hi-tech websites hosting internet exchange centres – internet hotels. Growns was previously international sales director at Colt internet and has 15 years experience in data networking and call centres. He will oversee Ixguardian's move into the European internet hotel market.

Alarm
The Association of Local Authority Risk Managers (Alarm) has appointed Sheila Boyce as its chief executive. Boyce's previous post was as a manager with Aon's public sector consulting group. She takes up her new role in January.

JST Mackintosh
Liverpool-based commercial and insurance law firm JST Mackintosh has appointed Jonathan Goodwin a partner. He will be handling contrived and fraudulent motor claims on behalf of motor insurers.
