Uk income protection insurer, Unum has increased sales for the third consecutive quarter from £7.8 million, to £8.8m to £9.6m. Third quarter sales were up 97% on the same period last year.

Director of distribution, Dave Rather, said the results were helped by sales to companies which traditionally did not seek income protection.

"We believe that more and more forward-thinking employers are turning to income protection to meet their employee benefit needs," he said.

Meanwhile, Unum was voted Best Group Income Protection Provider by IFAs at the industry's annual health insurance awards.

Unum is the UK and European arm of Unum Provident in the US which recently put its reinsurance company Duncanson Holt Europe into run-off.
