Amlin said vice-chairman John Stace had accepted an invitation from the board to retain his role in a non-executive capacity from 1 January until the company's AGM in late May 2004.

It had previously announced that Stace would retire on 31 December. He will leave the board at the end of May.

Amlin said the move was in line with Stace's re-election to the board in May 2003 for a term of office of one year only.
