An insurance claim for a gold pendant that had been inadvertently mislaid by a working girl from London's West End was one of the more unusual cases handled recently by Loss Management Group (LMG).
An insurance company passed on the claim, saying its client had lost an unusual gold pendant and wanted LMG to investigate, explained Stephen Kopaloff, jewellery manager at LMG.
"In our naivety we first thought the girl was talking about a bedspring when we asked her to describe it to us," he added.
"Upon further probing, however, we discovered that the item in question was in fact a half-size
18-carat gold replica of a contraceptive coil, given to the girl by her former lover."
It transpired it had been specially commissioned from a reputable jeweller. The claim eventually turned out to be genuine and a cash settlement of £600 was made.
And as proof of ownership the girl even sent Loss Management Group a picture of herself wearing it... round her neck.
