Office becomes first for UK Middle Market team outside of London.
XL Insurance, the global insurance operations of XL Capital, has expanded its UK Middle Market initiative by opening a Newcastle office.
The office, which becomes the insurer's first in the UK outside of London, will form a regional hub and underwriting centre for XL Insurance's Middle Market business.
Terry Nichol, regional manager for UK Middle Market, will be based in Newcastle with Karin McKivitt, who joins XL Insurance as casualty underwriter Middle Market. The Newcastle team will work with XL Insurance's London-based Middle Market underwriters and focus initially on liability and contractors all risks, and will expand into other product lines at a later date.
Nichol said: "With our Newcastle office we will be able to quote and underwrite locally while working closely with our London-based colleagues. The office will enhance our local presence and I also look forward to working with middle markets brokers and clients across the UK regions. As part of XL Insurance's growing Middle Market initiative we will be looking at extending our offerings to meet clients' and brokers' needs for local access."
Denis Burniston, chief underwriting officer UK Middle Market, added: "Many medium-sized companies in the UK are looking for risk managed insurance solutions and we believe that we can best serve these businesses with a London operation as well as our Newcastle office. The Newcastle team will be strategically placed to support brokers and clients in the North East and also provide access for companies in other regions of the UK."
