XL Capital’s Lloyd’s and London Market chief executive Nicholas Metcalf has left the company to pursue other business interests.

Metcalf, who in addition to his role as chief executive of XL London Market, is active underwriter for Syndicate 1209. He will work closely with XL to ensure a smooth transition to a new management team, said the company.

Metcalf started his career at Lloyd's in 1977. He was appointed chief executive officer of XL London Market in September 2000. The company has a syndicate capacity of over $500 million.
